GOLDEN YEARS HOME CARE

(916) 333-0383

As the founders of Golden Years Home Care, my wife Carrie and I have spent over 20 years helping seniors in Sacramento and surrounding areas live comfortably and safely at home. One of the most common questions we hear from families is:

“Should we choose a live-in caregiver or 24-hour home care for our loved one?”

Both options provide around-the-clock support, but they serve different needs. Understanding the differences can help you make the best decision for your family.

Our Journey in Senior Care: A Foundation of Compassion

Before we dive into the details, I want to share a bit about our background.

Carrie and I started in senior care at a young age, assisting in our family’s care homes. We quickly realized that seniors thrive best when they receive personalized, compassionate care in a setting that feels like home.

In 1996, we opened our first care facility, Golden Years Guest Home, where we specialized in rehabilitation. But we noticed something profound; most seniors didn’t want to stay in a care facility permanently. They wanted to go back home.

That realization led us to shift our focus to in-home care, bringing our expertise directly to seniors in Sacramento. Today, Golden Years Home Care is one of the most trusted providers in the region, offering live-in caregivers and 24-hour home care services tailored to each family’s needs.

Live-In Caregiver vs. 24-Hour Home Care: Key Differences

1. Live-In Caregiver: Constant Support with a Familiar Face

A live-in caregiver in Sacramento, CA, resides in your loved one’s home, providing continuous care while maintaining a structured schedule. Here’s what you can expect:

  • One primary caregiver stays for extended shifts

  • They assist with activities of daily living, including meal prep, bathing, housekeeping, running errands, and companionship

  • Sleep periods are included, but the caregiver remains on-site for emergencies

  • Ideal for seniors who prefer consistency and a close, trusting relationship with their caregiver

We’ve seen how live-in care can transform lives. Seniors feel safer, families have peace of mind, and caregivers become like family.

2. 24-Hour Home Caregiver: Round-the-Clock Shifts for Higher Needs

For seniors requiring more intensive support, 24-hour home care for the elderly in Sacramento, CA, involves a team of caregivers working in shifts to ensure non-stop supervision.

  • Multiple caregivers rotate in 8-12 hour shifts

  • Best for seniors with advanced medical conditions, dementia, or high fall risk

  • Provides awake care at all times, including overnight monitoring

  • Ensures fresh, alert caregivers at all hours

Some families worry about shift changes, but our caregivers are trained to communicate seamlessly so your loved one’s routine stays uninterrupted.

Which Option Is Right for Your Loved One?

Choosing between a live-in caregiver and 24-hour home care depends on:

✔ Level of need – Does your loved one require constant awake supervision?
✔ Personal preference – Would they bond better with one consistent caregiver?
✔ Home environment – Is there space for a caregiver to stay comfortably?
