GOLDEN YEARS HOME CARE

(916) 333-0383

For over 20 years, my wife Carrie and I have dedicated our lives to providing compassionate senior care. It all started when we were young, assisting in our family’s home care facilities and realizing that caring for seniors was our true calling. Back then, the industry wasn’t as developed as it is today, but our passion drove us to open Golden Years Guest Home in 1996. Since then, we’ve helped countless families in Sacramento, San Diego, and Coronado navigate the challenges of aging with dignity.

One of the most common questions we hear is: “What’s the difference between home care and home health care?” If you’re exploring options for your loved one in Coronado, understanding these differences is crucial to making the best decision.

Understanding Home Care (Non-Medical Care)

At Golden Years In-Home Senior Care, we specialize in non-medical home care, which focuses on helping seniors maintain independence, safety, and quality of life. Our Companion Care Specialists provide personalized support, ensuring your loved one enjoys their golden years with comfort and dignity.

What Home Care Includes:

  • Companionship & Emotional Support – Engaging in conversations, walks, and activities to prevent loneliness.

  • Daily Living Assistance – Help with bathing, grooming, dressing, and incontinence care.

  • Household Tasks – Light housekeeping, meal preparation, and laundry.

  • Transportation & Errands – Safe rides to appointments, grocery shopping, and social outings.

Home care is ideal for seniors who need assistance with daily activities but don’t require medical treatment. Whether it’s a few hours a day or 24-hour care, our team provides the support needed to keep your loved one safe and happy at home.

Understanding Home Health Care

While home care focuses on daily living support, home health care involves medical services provided by licensed professionals, such as nurses or therapists. This type of care is typically prescribed by a doctor and may include:

What Home Health Care Includes:

  • Skilled Nursing – Wound care, injections, medication management, and monitoring chronic conditions.

  • Physical & Occupational Therapy – Rehabilitation after surgery, injury, or illness.

  • Post-Hospital Care – Recovery support after a hospital stay.

Which One Does Your Loved One Need?

Choosing between home care and home health care depends on your loved one’s needs:

If they require help with daily tasks, companionship, and safety at home, a private home care agency in Coronado like ours can provide the right support.

If they need medical treatment, rehabilitation, or nursing care, home health care may be necessary.

In many cases, families use both services together. For example, a senior recovering from a stroke might receive physical therapy (home health care) while also having a caregiver assist with meals and mobility (home care).

FAQs About Home Care vs. Home Health Care

1. Can home care and home health care be used together?
Absolutely! Many seniors benefit from both. For example, a caregiver can assist with daily activities while a nurse handles medical needs.

2. How do you handle emergencies?
Our caregivers are trained to respond calmly and follow family-approved protocols.
